Super easy DIY project - Making forward facing bookshelves.

#DIY #WOODWORKING #BOOKSHELVES This is a quick and easy method to making forward or front facing book shelves. DIY scrap wood furniture ¦ Transforming old fence posts & old bar stool in to something useful

#UPCYCLE #WOODWORKING #MAKER #SCRAPWOOD In this video I make a children's chair out of the top of a bar stool and re-used the wood from some old fence posts for the legs. The bar stool was bought for the base. I had to replace a broken one of which I couldn't get the same colour meaning the top was left over. The legs spend 20 years of their life holding up garden fence panels. They were rotten...

Making a device to switch off the TV when no movement is detected

DIY Energy saving device to switch off the TV when no movement is detected in the room. I got fed up of complaining that the "TV was playing to an empty room" so made this device to switch the TV when no motion was detected after 5 minutes. Install a keypad on your coffee machine and control with Arduino

This video shows how to install an Arduino nano into your coffee machine so that it can only be used when you know the right code. Ideal for use in any appliance in a shared kitchen or house. The company I work for bought this coffee machine for its employees to use in a shared project office kitchen. The kitchen is used by a lot of other companies, and as it’s only a domestic coffee machine it...
Cool
Use epoxy as filler.
How do you freehand drill straight?
I seen a few videos about the storage under the stairs and I must say this is the best one I have seen! Well done!
Do you have any advice for removing the brackets? We have the same for our floating shelves, but right now are moving house, and are really struggling to take them out the wall 😢
I've not had to take mine off yet. I'd probably start with trying to pry out from behind the shelf, or fitting a clamp to the shelf that can be gripped better
Can you send me the details of the latch and also the sliding closures please going to do this my self too
Imagine leaving that particular drawer sticking out accidentally and one of your children walking face-first into that very sharp angled corner! That's dangerous and an eyeball gone for sure.
No injuries so far! 🤞
Whoa! Narely knots!
Pretty cool got to make some for my sister in laws wedding
Great vid. Just one thing is confusing me. When you transferred the stairs angle to the table saw, the sled angle is not the same in the next scene when you start cutting? Really confusing me how you've set the angle on the saw?
Wood filler not poly filler
só
Well, that setup is only as good as the wall material - in your case, you have a solid wall.....now, if you have sheerock - that setup ain't gonna work ~ I'm outta here ....
WHAT, buy 3 lag10" should work, drive bolts into you studs in a line. cut the heads off, drill same size bolt hole in wood, aligned with bolts, put shelf on. done.
Hi it’s Russian cherry or premium and it’s better with 3/4 or 5/8 will be good?
I used 18mm which is 3/4 equivalent. It was sold as "hard wood"!
Could you please post a link for the drawer sliders. I’ve looked for a set and these look by far the best kind.
It's been some time since I got these now but I did post a link in the description. Let me know if you can't find them and I'll have another look
The problem with the drilling is you didn’t seem to use a drill with hammer action. This is the reason it all heated up last time and didn’t work, and ruined the carpet. The hammer action will make light work of drilling into that wall. Also, if you did need to remove that shelf just get a Jimmy bar down behind it and it will easily ‘lever’ off the wall. More force than trying to tug on the shelf. Good luck.
great video, audio levels are a bit of a mess but your personality kept me going thro the video! great job!
Thanks for the feedback!
Now how do you remove it I’m trying to take mine down
What is the size of the wood?
Did you drill into a stud? Or is that not necessary?
For my wall it was a brick wall so didn't have any studs. There are some third party plug options out there if you can't align with a stud
Well done
Just wanted to say thank you. I have been trying to figure out how people make the runners soft close. Now I know thank you. Love the work.
Hi Neil, do you have a video for that table saw jig? I've just bought the same table saw and would be really useful to have.
No I don't I'm afraid!
SO IMPRESSIVE ❤❤❤
Are you using an SDS drill or a combi drill?
It's not SDS but it's a mains powered hammer drill with a conventional chuck
@@NeilLovegrovemaker You'll never go back once you try an SDS drill :) Amazing. Especially for concreate or very tough bricks.
did you put your holes into studs? or just your drywall?
Neither. This is a brick wall
What is the weight of your shelf ? I have a live edge messmate timber- 1500x400 mm. I want to put it up as a floating shelf but it’s quite heavy and I am looking for some heavy duty brackets. It would be nice if you could let me know how many kilos these brackets can hold. TIA
I don't have that info in afraid. The good thing with them is that if it needs extra support you can remove the shelf and add more studs for strength without removing what you've already installed
What size bits ??
I don't remember now! I experimented with some sizes until it felt right
Why is it still wobbly though?
Wow an actual diy video where the person doing the work doesn’t have a full woodshop! Thanks for doing this video. The results are fantastic. Quick question for you; are you using the full paid version of sketchup? I just started learning it and it’s great to draw up the plan first.
Thanks for your feedback! No, just the free version of SketchUp for now!
I've found the very best way to fix a floating shelf that will be rock solid is to use 12mm threaded rod and fix in the wall with resin, making the hole in the wall 16mm. Just support it for 15 mins. The down side is that it's permanent but most shelves are. I've done many like that and they hold any weight.
Can these hold house plants?
Depends on how much they weigh, obviously very big ones would weigh a lot more so you need more brackets
very informative. never heard of those mounting screws
For thicker and stronger floating shelves (min. 1 3/4" thick), check out Hovr Bracket System. 300# load capacity at 8" shelf depth. We just used them for first time on a major kitchen renovation. Incredible product performs just as claimed.
what auto cad software did you use please
SketchUp!
this video is perfect for what I need!! Well filmed and well explained....love the bedroom😂
Bro why is someone who has so much nice sawing kit using a combi drill as a driver?! Awesome job though I hope mine turn out half as nice as yours!
Great Work👍
Came here because of the thumb nail 😂😂😂
I've got a void behind a stud wall in a old airing cupboard I've removed all the plaster and want to do something same as this and was racking my brains how to do it and your video has made me feel quite confident about doing this
Hi great video, the link to the Amazon drawer runners, please can you tell me is it the 250mm or 350mm that are needed?
Hi there I've just checked my link and it looks like they've sold out of the longer options. There are plenty of other types available. Best thing to do is.measure how deep your space is and roughly work out how heavy your drawers will be and get something for that weight and length. Hope this helps
Great video
lol! I remember the day I first learned what a "spanner' was. 🤣
That bit you showed was a carbide tipped drill bit used in drilling CEMENT, not wood!!
It's a brick wall 😉
How do you remove this? I was just evicted and need to remove the shelves but they're solid! Should I try and pry them off? Don't want to damage the walls either.
I've not had to remove them yet! I would avoid prying in case you damage the wall. You may have to sacrifice the shelf though. You could screw in an anchor point to the shelf the hammer or attache a strap to to pull from. You could also try a quick grip clamp configured to push outwards and push between the wall and a sacrificial block screwed into the shelf
Hi Neil could you please tell me the sizes of the log slices you use 😊
I don't have the stand any more to measure, from memory the base was around 40 - 50cm,of and top layers would have been smaller, perhaps 30cm and 20cm roughly
Thank you @@NeilLovegrovemaker
So effing cool! Thank you so much for sharing.
What size drill bit do you need to make the hole in the wood?
The bit used should be linked in the description
Thanks Neil, do you reckon these would be sturdy enough for books?
Yeah it'd say so
